How to create a new board when an item is created?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find a way to have a new board created when I add a new item to a specific board.

The way we’re working now is this :

  • One board = one project (example : February Newsletter)
  • In this board, we have a list of items that we need to do in order to finish the February Newsletter project.

I created a “master” board to have a quick overview of all projects (progress and deadlines). Right now, I’m creating a new item for every board I create, and I use mirror columns to see the overall progress and deadlines.

However, it’s not very convenient because I have to manually create a new item each time I create a new project (a new board).

Is there a way I could create an item in my master board, and automatically have a board created with the same name that uses a particular template ?

Or maybe the other way around. I could create a new board (using a template), and a new item with the name of the board would be automatically created in my master board ?

Welcome to the community! There is an app in the marketplace called Rollup Multiple Boards, see https://monday.com/marketplace/101. It does this (create a new board from a template when a status in another board changes) and a lot more. Basically it makes the mirror column redundant. It has recipes to watch columns in the created boards and aggregate the data (e.g. sum of %Status done) etc. It can also filter the aggregated values. The output is written in normal monday columns (in the master board) so they can be used to trigger other automations.
