Item count in dashboard number widget

It’s a short text column. I’m looking to count the number of unique company names.

Thanks for clarifying! At this time, it isn’t possible to customise which specific items you’d like to count based on another column in the Numbers widget - in your case, the company column. I apologise for the setback here!

That said, I am interested if you could instead use a chart widget (specifically a stacked bar chart) to achieve this?

In this case, it is not only counting the items, but also categorising the item count based on the company…

Let me know what you think!

Hello,

I am also looking for a way to show the number of unique company names from a text column in a number widget on my dashboard. The bar graph solution doesn’t really do that becuase you would still have to manually count the number of bars in the chart. Is there a way to show the number of unique values in a column ? I can change the column to another type if necessary (dropdown menu, status…).

Thanks!

Hey Sydney,

Hm, I am interested if you could utilise the widget filters to pull this specific data? You can then save the filter so that the widget permanently displays the uniques values in the column?

Hi Bianca, thanks for getting back to me on this.

Filtering by company won’t work for me here, because what I’m looking for is the total number of company names that appears in the column. With this filter as with the bar chart, I would see the total number of lines, so a company that appears in the table 3 times will be counted 3 times, whereas I need it to only be counted once.

For more context, I have a table where I track employee volunteer engagement. Each line corresponds with a specific volunteering activity, and indicates the volunteer and which company they work for. Therefore, a company can appear multiple times in my table. I need to be able to calculate the number of companies who participated in activities, which means counting each company only once, regardless of how many times it appears in my table.

Hello @swheeler,
You can use the Duplicates and Uniques app for that. Basically create a template that tracks unique items and changes a status column. Then you can create a widget based on that column.
Here is a demo on how to work with templates.
The only difference in your case will be to select “Unique values” in Step 3.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, you can always reach out at support@kolaai.com

I’m having this same issue. And the Duplicates and Uniques app is entirely too expensive for us to get and pay a monthly fee for, just to have a single column counted. And the bar chart is totally unwieldy, when I’m managing a list of 200 apartment units, and I need to know how many individual units have a maintenance request.

Manually, one can click on filter and it shows “All of N rows” where N is your row count.
Obviously it would be good to be able to add this as a count under items.

I don’t think this works well if you move items between groups - the ID count changes i.e. it counts per group rather than per board.

Hey Did you ever figure this out? I am looking for the same feature. I want to know how many unique clients we have utilizing a specific product.
