in project management with Monday I am running into issues with milestones being shifted automatically when items from which the milestone is dependent are changed to a later timeline.
Is it possible to lock the dates of milestones, so that even if it is impossible to achieve it due to its dependencies, the milestone remains on its date? Ideally it would be highlighted in some way that this milestone can’t be reached in time, due to its predecessors being delayed. But I want to avoid that milestones are shifted automatically when I change something in ealier stages, without me noticing it. For now I set up a notification when a milestone’s date is changed.
To answer your question, it is not possible to lock the dates of milestones to prevent them from shifting automatically when dependencies change. Dependencies will cause dates to shift based on the changes in their dependent dates.
However, you may be able to achieve this through Make.com/Zapier.

Hello!!
In Monday.com, there isn’t a direct “lock” feature for milestones, but you can prevent automatic date shifts by manually setting milestone dates and adjusting automations to prevent changes when dependent tasks are delayed. To highlight when a milestone can’t be met due to delays, use dependent date columns and custom automations to trigger notifications or status changes when a delay occurs. Additionally, setting up notifications for any milestone date changes will ensure you’re alerted if adjustments happen without your notice.
thanks for sharing your ideas. I don’t understand the first part yet.
Sending notifications, when a milestone date changes or setting a status, so far so good. But how exactly would I achieve to force the milestone date back to the initially set milestone date?
We are using timeline columns, which unfortunately cannot by used in automations or synced to date columns in any way. Maybe there are apps on the marketplace that support this, but due to data privacy concerns we are not allowed to use any third party apps.
