Need timeline to adjust to actual end date

I feel like some of the standard project management timeline options are missing. When we complete a task early, I need the timeline end date to adjust to the earlier date. Then remaining tasks would adjust to earlier dates. I thought that if I could adjust the “timeline end date” to reflect changes in the “actual end date” the dependency automations would adjust.
I have tried a few things:
This automation doesn’t adjust the timeline end date.

This automation won’t work either. I have the option of adding the Timeline end date when I select first “do something”.

But I don’t need it then. when I try select this in the the second “do something” field, it is not an option.

Are these columns not compatible for automations?
I tried to use the formula column, but this just populates the Timeline End date in the formula column.

but this just populates the Timeline End date in the formula column.

Does anyone have a work around that would adjust my timeline if we finish a task before the due date?

I’m interested in this too. If the timeline can’t be tied to the actual finish date, it’s not much use for me.
