Open SharePoint File Links in Desktop App not Browser

My board has links to files on SharePoint. When clicking the link, it opens by default in the browser not the desktop app.

I have fixed all settings on Microsoft’s side, so that when we’re directly in SharePoint and we click the link, it will open in the Excel desktop app not the browser.

I have searched through multiple articles online and within this community board, but I cannot find an option to force Monday to open the files in the programs’ desktop app instead of the browser.

This requires me to have monday.com and SharePoint open so that I can open the file in the desktop app, which defeats the purpose of linking to SharePoint on our board.

Is there a resolution for this?
Thanks.

Hanna, thank you for your response. Yes, we’re aware there is an option via OneDrive to access SharePoint sites.

Though, that is not what I am requesting. This request/inquiry is specifically for opening files (via SharePoint File links) within monday.com to open in the desktop app vs the browser.

Hi @KMcG

Our Microsoft 365 Office Embedded app allows you to open files in the desktop app directly from within monday.com:

It has much more than just this, with a variety of useful automations and views for boards, items, dashboards and workdocs. Take a look at the getting started guide for further details.

David, thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, your app that you’re suggesting would be another expense.
Our company has a subscription for monday.com & for Microsoft 365 - this would be only another expense to link the two together.

Monday.com advertises to consumers/businesses that we can use our already in-place file sources (SharePoint) alongside their workflow - yet they fail to mention up front, to do so, in the manner we’re requesting, would require the use of another subscription service.

I would think most users would prefer this to be handled by monday.com vs being forced into using another micro-transaction app due to a limitation cause by monday’s setup (or lack thereof).

Thanks again, Dave, I appreciate your time, and I’m sure you’re app is fine - but we’re not looking to add to our already growing list of required micro-transaction monday.com apps.
