Reusing Task Names

I have a question that I think has a simple answer, but for some reason I’m not seeing it.

Suppose I have a board called Deals and a board called Tasks. Each task is associated with a Deal via a connect boards column. The issue is that many deals follow a similar workflow, so that I need to reuse the same task name many times. Suppose, for example, that the first step in many (but not all) deals is “Make Initial Contact”. When I’m on the Deals board, I can, of course, connect a new task to a Deal from a Deal’s card. But if I want to name the new task “Make Initial Contact”, if I type “Make Initial Contact” in the search/new bar, I see all the other “Make Initial Contact” tasks in the search results. Those are tasks already associated with different deals – I want a new “Make Initial Contact” task associated with this particular deal.

Yes, I can scroll to the bottom of the search results and add a new “Make Initial Contact” task, and then select that task as the one to associate with this deal, but wow that seems super clunky and inelegant and confusing for users. And yes, I could instead create a status column with “Make Initial Entry” as one of the options, but that doesn’t work for my use case because there will be a huge variety of tasks names, only some of which are frequently repeated.

Like I said, I feel like I’m missing something simple here. Big thanks for any help!

What about including customer name in the task name? Or even creating an automation to create the task and connect the items together. Then you wouldn’t have to figure out which task

Thanks! I did think about manually adding the deal name to the task every time I create a task, but that feels clunk and burdensome. Your point about doing this in an automation might make sense. Hmmm . . . I think I could use an automation to concatenate the deal name to the beginning of the task name every time I create a task. Still feels clunkier than it should, but that could work. Thanks again!
