Sub items time tracking report

Hi,

I was hoping someone can help or give me a bit of guidance regarding my Monday.com board.

I have a board with a list of items which all have sub items. In each sub item there is a “People” column and “Time Tracking” column for recording time.

I would like to create a dashboard to give a total amount of time for certain people.

When I try to do this using the dashboards, there is no way for me to achieve this query. The time tracking widget does not allow me to track sub items time tracking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is exactly what I need, and from all my investigations, it still doesn’t exist! That is astounding. It’s an essential feature. I’m still trying desperately to find a solution.

Hi Karen,

The only solution I can see at the moment is the following app on the monday.com marketplace:

https://monday.com/marketplace/10000085

However, it’s a paid app but it does come with a 5 day trial for you to test it.

It tracks sub item time and you can report on the main task item or people within the sub items which was exactly what we were looking for.

You’re right, it’s astounding that the monday.com time widget doesn’t have this built into their dashboards natively and we have to rely on a paid solution. We all pay a monday.com subscription and the least we can expect is to report on people tracking time within the sub items.

I hope this helps as a temporary solution, and I also hope the monday.com developers can identify this as a main feature that needs to be implemented.

All the best!

@anthonywoods @karenc1 Analytics & Reports by Screenful allows reporting time tracking data both on top level items and subitems. You can learn more from this guide: Creating charts based on time tracking data - Screenful Guide for monday.com

Thanks Sami,

I need to view total time per item within a group for each person within a date range. It doesn’t seem like this will create a chart based including all of those parameters? I am also open to creating a separate board and separating out into groups.

@karenc1 you are right in that currently we don’t support showing total time tracked per individual per item. You can see total time tracked per individual OR total time tracker per item but the combination is not supported. I have suggested our team to add that capability and I will let you know if it arrives any time soon. Thanks for pointing it out!

All my individual tasks are tracked as subitems. Any individual parent item will have many subitems with different team members assigned to different subitems. My team needs a dashboard/widget where they can see all the time they’ve tracked that week across boards with different subitems, but that doesn’t currently work because it is not compatible with subitems.

@karenc1 Screenful can now report this after its recent update. You can now track time logged by individual by item within a date range

Hey. My team actually created a custom coded solution in this domain. It’s a board view that allows you to choose time tracking columns on multiple boards to pull excel reports from where the time is grouped by person/board. Maybe it’ll help some teams out. It’s a private app and just a prototype for now but you can install it with this link. Let me know if you find it useful.

This sounds interesting, but hesitant to give access to private app on a forum.

Can I create a report of Time Logged by individuals, at a subitem level, and filter by both date and a top level item (e.g. Client, which for us is a Status column on the top level)?

I can’t believe we’re being forced to create custom apps, Time Tracking widget at a subitem level should be standard.

Also, who did you use to build the custom coded solution? I tried using Claude to help (I am not native to coding) but not much luck.

Where has this app gone?! I am willing to pay but cannot find a solution. We need to be able to filter by top level items. I can’t believe it isn’t a standard feature on the Time Tracking widget…

Hey Ross. With our app, you can create a report of time logged at a subitem level within a certain date range. Then you can organize that time data by person or by board. I don’t think it’s exactly what you’re after but perhaps it’s a start.

Liam - this is fantastic. Thank you. I tried it on a test board and it is part of exactly what I need. However, when I try it on other boards, after I choose the date range, it gets perpetually stuck on the loading symbol.

I can’t seem to send you a direct message. Have you experienced this issue? I’d also love to hear how you built it / if you’re open to sharing the code.

I’ve been coding pretty much the exact same thing, but you are definitely a few steps ahead, so it would save me a lot of time.
