A feature request from last year has already got a lot of traction on this same topic. It’d be best if you voiced your request in that one and vote on it .
Thank you. Have voted on it. It says that was first raised in April 2019 – which is two years ago. How long does it take for a feature suggestion (that has traction) to get actioned?

An incredibly long time, to be honest. Monday can be very frustrating at some point, expecially when new “niche” features that haven’t been asked for keep coming out, but the partially working basic features don’t budge for months.
I’m astonished that subfolders are not supported. My use case is that I have pre-designed templates that have been provided to me by third party sources, and I would like to use subfolders as a means for grouping templates by third party source. This is not my only use case, but it is the most recent one that comes to mind. I’m with everyone else on this thread. Subfolders just seem like a no-brainer and basic equipment for any kind of filing system. Is there anything planned for enhancements?
@cyowell Can you provide more specifics on your use case? Input on the community like “seems like a pretty basic feature” or “why isn’t this included” don’t really garner any attention. “Basic” features can be a very subjective term and without specifics, it won’t get very high on mondays radar.
I haven’t seen a really compelling argument yet for subfolders if I’m being honest. But if you have a good use case, even if it’s niche, please share in more details. Additionally please provide details on how you would set up your Workspaces/Folders/Subfolders, what having subfolders solves for you, and how mondays current feature/or lack of impacts your use. This is in no way a guarantee subfolders will become a feature but it will drastically improve its chances.
A potential solution for you in the meantime; could you use a separate Workspace as your “Folder” and the use the folders inside the Workspace as “Subfolders”?
Workspace = Templates
Folders = Third Party Sources
This wouldn’t affect the use of any templated boards as they should still be accessible from other Workspaces(as long as its not private). This should give you the nice separation from your other boards and keep things organized by sources(via Folders). Hope this helps!
This has just been announced on the partner website.
2. Subfolders
Our platform now supports an extra layer of folders!
The long-anticipated subfolders feature is finally supported! (Currently open only to monday).
We have decided to set the folder hierarchy to maximum two levels for the time being , because:
More than two levels introduce several UX challenges
Having deep hierarchies can cause poor performance and other technical issues
If we see that there is a strong signal for more levels we will reassess the issue.
Release plan:
Release internally to monday (today)
Start gradual release to clients next week
Continue with future steps, depending on signals and urgency
Future steps:
Hide folders from the “move to folder” dialog if they cannot receive a certain folder. For now we show all folders, and show an error message when the folder cannot be moved
Add a way to show users that they cannot drag a folder to a certain folder. Currently we allow any dragging, and show an error message.
Adjust cross account copier and account consolidation to move folders with their subfolders
Hi @basdebruin, can our company be included in that beta testing? We would commit to bring immediate and useful feedback, this is a feature we would use A LOT
Hiya folks,
What’s the word on subfolders? Like many others, I feel that this is an absolute necessity, even if it is limited to 2 levels. Workspaces are just not a substitute for folders. Over a month has passed since this was released internally, and it does not appear to have been released for general use.
