Text cell editing question

I submitted an item to a create a new row in a Monday board with a few specific data tidbits. One of the tidbits I sent along was some text.

When I visited this entry in Monday, the text showed and rendered fine. To my surprise though, there was a “x” beside the test. So I clicked that and sure enough my text was disappeared, never to be seen again. I was a little surprised there was no confirmation nag pop-up modal asking me if I was sure.

I guess that is by design? Living dangerously! Is there a way to create a text cell with content that is read-only and therefore the little killer would not show?

Hi @dlazar,

By default, Monday.com allows users to edit or delete text in most columns, including the “X” to clear content, without a confirmation prompt. This is the standard behavior, so it’s always good to double-check before clicking!

If you want to make sure your text isn’t accidentally edited or deleted, here are some options based on your plan:

Free Plan:

  • Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in way to make columns read-only. You’ll need to rely on team collaboration etiquette to avoid unwanted edits.

Pro Plan:

  • You can set board permissions to limit who can edit the board. For example:
    • View Only: Restricts all edits for specific users.
    • Edit Rows Assigned to Them: Users can only edit items assigned to them.

Enterprise Plan:

  • You can use the Restrict Column Editing feature to make specific columns editable only by certain people or teams.
    • Go to board settings → Column Permissions → Select the column and assign permissions.

Alternatively, you can use Mirror Columns (on any plan with this feature) to display text from another board. Mirrored columns can’t be edited directly, which adds an extra layer of protection.

Yeah, agree!

The is no detailed “UNDO” in Monday, just for some actions.

It’s rather worrisome,

Happy new year!

Hello @dlazar,
Creating a read-only text cell in Monday isn’t a built-in feature for some plans. Here’s what you can do: pear deck join

  • Set Board Permissions: Use board permissions to limit who can edit.
  • Mirror Columns: Display text from another board using Mirror Columns.

You might consider submitting a feature request for read-only text cells if this becomes a frequent need. Does this help?

Best Regards,
Daniel Lopez
