I’m building my first Monday.com workflow, but it appears to only operate on one board. I want my workflow to work across multiple boards that have the same structure. Example: if the Risk Status column changes on any of the project boards selected, do something. This would make it more efficient to make changes workflow, I would love a future where I only have to do it once!
This would be a huge time saver. We defined a standard board structure and having to manually copy and configure a workflow across 20 boards every time there is a new created is PAINFUL. I would love if I could set the board as a variable on the workflow, tag the boards it applies to, do the column matching across the included boards, and setup the workflow ONCE instead of x times.
Second this. The more I’m educating myself in Monday, the more I realise how much basic features are missing that could save tons of time.

Coming from a programming background and having used automations and workflows in HubSpot, this is such a basic requirement. I don’t want to create multiple duplicate workflows and then update all of them when there is a change.

I love this idea! This would be a great implementation, adding great value. Then all you have to do is add the board when a board is in need of this, or remove a board when not needed.
Yeah, that’s a common limitation - native workflows are still very board-scoped, even if the boards share the same structure. There isn’t a true “global workflow” yet, so you end up duplicating logic.
One workaround we’ve seen work well is using Time in Status for monday.com
Instead of relying on per-board workflows, you can monitor status changes (like Risk Status) across multiple boards in one place and trigger actions or reports based on that. It doesn’t replace workflows entirely, but it does centralize logic and visibility so you’re not rebuilding the same thing over and over.
Hopefully monday adds workspace-level workflows soon - a lot of teams are asking for exactly this.
Will a workflow work on multiple boards if it’s tied to a managed template? Can a workflow be tied to a managed template? I wonder.
If you have the same board structure, then Same Item Multiple Boards can be very relevant here.
You don’t need to recreate the same workflows on 20 different boards - if you simply share the same item across different boards, all columns will show the relevant values, so you don’t need to manually set it up for each board. It scales much better.
It’s not a native “global workflow” replacement, but it does eliminate most of the duplication pain
I recommend you try the Mirror Item Multiple Boards app.
You could mirror the same item to multiple boards with full syncing.
So your risk status column and the relevant items could exist across your workflow. You would need to have the same automations on each board to trigger the ‘something’.
But monday is soon coming out with Automations for entire workspaces, so that shouldn’t be a problem for a long time.
