Automations are not created with Managed templates

I am using the managed templates feature. Cannot find anything about automations not being inherited to the child boards. Is this as designed, a bug or a feature coming soon? Thanks.

In monday.com’s Managed Templates feature, automations are not automatically inherited by child boards created from a managed template. This behavior is by design, as the current implementation focuses on synchronizing specific structural elements such as columns, groups, items, and certain column settings. Automations, however, are not included in this synchronization process.

While there is no official confirmation regarding future updates to include automation inheritance in Managed Templates, monday.com continually enhances its features based on user feedback. It could be a feature request?

Like Clare said above, automations added to the template will NOT populate in child boards when you publish. It’s a frustrating limitation to be sure, but the feature is very new and still has LOTS of significant limitations to address. (I’m hoping Monday is prioritizing development of this useful feature!)

HOWEVER, if you add automations to the template and then create child boards from that template, the child boards WILL all start with that initial set of automations. You just can’t update or add to them after that point.

You are correct, I am a bit puzzled as I tried this out in both scenarios and neither worked a week ago. But it now works as described in the scenario you mention. Thanks.

It seems that automations not being inherited by child boards is likely by design, as managed templates typically focus on board structure rather than automations. If this is a feature you’d expect, I’d suggest checking with support or submitting feedback to see if it’s planned for a future update.
