Email Notifications on Sub Items need to include the Name of the parent item

When there is an update on a subitem that include an @mention, that user gets an email. This probably applies in other instances as well. That email shows the name of the subitem, but the user doesn’t know what parent item this is for. It is common for us to use similarly name subitems for tasks on multiple main items, so this can be very frustrating to our users. It would be helpful to the email specify “Subitem X on item Y” to provide the context for the update. Simple, but helpful.

Hello,
I’ve been a Monday user for 8 months and I’m missing exactly this functionality. Has there been any progress in this regard? For users who are experiencing the same problem, have you developed any alternative that does not involve reproducing the name of the parent/main element in the sub-element?
Hey @BiancaT , any ideas about this topic?

Best regards, Fernando.

Hey @fernando! I can see what you mean here and certainly am happy to follow up internally on the status of this particular request - I will circle back here once I have an update

In the meantime, upon a secondary test, if you set up the following automation (to be notified of an update)

You should see that the parent item is referenced in the subject line of the automations email, as shown below:

Whilst I understand this is not the most ideal workaround, could this work for you in the meantime?

Hi @fernando!

I have heard back from our product team who have confirmed that they’re currently redesigning the notification email to follow your desired format which ensures the parent item name is included:

board_name > group_name > parent_item_name

They have said that within about 1 month this feature should be fully rolled out

Hello Bianca,

Thank you so much for following up with us! This update is going to be extremely helpful and assist us greatly. I work at Cogna, a large education company in Brazil, and we use Monday to manage our book production process. Our board structure consists of:

  • Group: group of projects by status (active, standby, planned, finished)
  • Element: project
  • Subelement: project parts

At this time, we have decided to partially replicate the element’s name in the subelements to avoid changing the structure. This will help ensure that notifications indicate which project they are referring to. So far, it’s working out well.

Thank you again for your support and availability! We’ll keep in touch.

Best regards,
Fernando
