Expand subitems as default view

I think your first point “Subitems should inherit the same column setup as the pulse they’re attached to” must be left to user choice or in board configuration (keep main pulse columns structure when creating subitems on/off). Subitems its a good way to make our main items structure short and showing the resume of the subitems data.

When going through your inbox, the title of the entry in your inbox doesn’t have any mention of the pulse it’s a subitem of, requiring you to click through to the pulse in order to see what it’s referring to. this makes it much more difficult to go through your inbox for status updates as you have no idea what pulse the update for.

@hlopezvc @Eleanor great feedback from you both! This is actually something we are looking into (i.e. the ability to choose whether or not to have a separate structure or to inherit the parent structure)!

An updated roadmap should be coming next week with more details and more specific timelines.

Be on the lookout in this thread

Hey guys, I just discovered a bug: on boards that use subitems, the expanded/collapsed states of regular pulse groups aren’t retained when switching to another board.

Hi Brett!

Did the updated roadmap get released? My team is waiting for the ability to duplicate boards with sub items in tact. Any status on this one? I understand this is in active development now.

Thanks!

+1 for maintain state as well as open/close all.

Agree, would love an update on this one. Not including the ability to duplicate subitems severely hampers the use of the tool for repeatable software implementation projects.

Hi Dominic! Love the sub-items. One small thing I’m finding is I’m unable to “shift+select” a long list of subitems like you can with the main items on the board.

See video for more detailed explanation: Video Here

Another thing to consider is to see Subitems in the Board shared views.
Actually i share a board view with Subitems and it doesnt display them.

Sub-items are a game changer for my team, so thanks first of all!

As well as some of the QOL changes above like keeping expanded/collapsed state, the main thing for us would be some kind of summary at the main item level. For example if you can set a progress column on the main item to pick up completion statuses of all subitems under the main item (top to bottom).

Hey @brett-monday.com

[BUG] Multiple sub-item duplication

Didn’t see it posted so I’ll share my bug.

  1. Created Item
  2. Created 34 sub-items
  3. Duplicated 22 of those sub-items
  4. Refresh/Move between boards will REMOVE all duplicated sub-items

Even when I renamed the duplicated items, they still disappeared after switching between boards.
They weren’t in the Recycle Bin, they just disappear.
Duplicate Items and Duplicate Items with Updates both disappear.

Duplicating only 3 items works ok, so I guess it glitches at a bigger bulk of sub-items.

Are there plans to show subtasks on other views / dashboards. My first use case was to use subtasks for resource allocation (this would provide the ability to have resources with different hour allocations) but subtasks are not accounted for on the workload view. I was also considering using them for tasks inside a project phase but they do not show on the timeline either. That one may not be an intended use, I’m currently using linked items for this.

We totally need this capability as well. For example, I use subitems for each payment on a Purchase Order. I’d love to see a summary total in dollar format.

Couldnt agree more, it doesnt make any sense to assign someone to the subitems if the permissions are set to an assigned user on the main item. If i need to make permissions more flexible i will be allowing anyone to edit or make changes on any pulse when its not required.

Besides this i see another problems:

  1. Notifications: There is not reference to the main item that this subitem depends, they say “you are owner of the subitem of the board subitems of BOARD NAME” i think there is an error… the name of the main pulse is missing here, because its the more important data of reference.

  2. Email notifications when im assigned to a subitem: As i was saying with notifications, the same happens in the email notifications, there is no reference to the main item that this subitems depends… This is critical.

  3. Android app subitems management: they are supported but as i was saying there is no reference, button, there is no way to go back and see from what main item i was assigned…

All this items should be fixed in order to comunicate well with other users.

After missing a bunch of deadlines this week, I have realised why! Subtasks do not appear in My Week when using the “Show Only Deadlines” mode. This is a huge gap right now.

We’d like to be able to move items in and out of other items. Sometimes multiple items get created that, on review, all belong to one larger task. In that case we’d like to create an item to be that larger task then move the individual items to be sub-items of it. Not only would it be annoying to have to recreate those items as sub-items, any conversation had on the original items would be lost.

Looking good so far - It would be good if subitems columns are exposed to the formula column, so that we can aggregate number values on the parent item.

It would be great if sub-items columns are exposed on board “filter everything” feature, showing only sub-itens filtered as result.

Hi - it would be great to be able to expand sub-items when on a table dashboard view.

I know others have mentioned, but for our team, as much as we’re loving sub-items, we are really limited by not being able to move tasks with sub-items between boards, exporting them to Excel, and the parent item not being shown when searching. That last one in particular is maddening - you search for your own name and you see a sea of sub-items listed and no clue what they are for. Can’t wait for these functionalities to be released!
