Hi! would this be the same as including them in mass emails as auto populate option. I use a formula to extract the customers first name for a friendlier email approach but can’t actually use the formula column in the options for auto populating in mass emails.
Hello,
totally agreed on the need for formulas in custom automation recipes. On a similar note, I think we need linked board columns as well. Or at least more options concerning the “other board” actions, eg. not only “create new item in board” but also “update item in board” etc. Anyone else?
While this is a nice addition the big breakthrough would be triggering automation based on a formula result. Is there any thought of getting this developed?
Development request was submitted back in the days (at least couple of years if I’m not mistaken).
Yes, @Julietteb I’m really interested in this also. Being able to base automations on Formula columns would open a lot up for my organization.
Hi everyone! I just checked in with the automations team and they are working this quarter on reading formula columns and using them in action blocks.
Currently, formula triggers will not be supported, but you can vote on the feature and share your feedback here.
I am very interested in having this capability also.
@Julietteb thank you for the update on the work to read formula columns and the pointer to this specific topic to vote on using them in triggering automations.
Oh, and @Julietteb I just voted here as recommended!
@Julietteb really appreciate the update! And the pointer to the 2nd topic focused specifically on using formula columns as triggers. I just voted there also!

It seems that formula columns aren’t currently supported in the automation recipes. You might want to consider
@Julietteb I would also appreciate this feature.
Hello Juliette, y want to know when this capability will be avalable, could you please update me
The ability to use formula values in automations is coming soon, with gradual release expected by the end of 2024. This feature will help streamline processes and enable color-coded status updates based on specific text conditions.
Is this feature now up? I don’t see it.
Is there an update on the release of this?
We built an app that solves this exact pain point of extracting formula values and using it in automations, it’s called Formula PRO.
With Formula PRO, you can project and write the results from your native formula columns to other columns (including those not supported by the native formula column), as well as to mirror columns and subitems.
You can use recipes like these to achieve the results you want:
And there are many more recipes available on the app.
We just launched it last week and we plan to keep adding more features on a bi-weekly basis.
You can check it out here: Formula PRO : Advanced Automations for Native Formula Columns, Mirror Columns & Subitems!
I’ve been following this thread for a while now.
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet is the new Monday AI and Workflows features. I’d bet that 90% of use cases where people are intending to use formulas in automations could be resolved using a combination of these two.
I know that workflows are not available on plans outside of Enterprise, but I’d still say that Monday AI could handle a lot of these requirements. If you have a specific problem you’d like solved in this way, I’d be happy to help out—please feel free to put a meeting on my calendar.
It sounds like they are planning to release functionality to use Formulas as actions within automations, however we really need this as conditional criteria (not necessarily the trigger). For example: When status changes to Done and only if Formula column equals/contains/not equal to/does not contain “X”, then move item to a specific Group.
Great example @brianjw
Hi everyone! Amy here from the monday.com team. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and we’re excited to share that the ability to use formula column values in automations is set for a full release in Q1 2025! This will allow you to seamlessly include calculated results from your formula columns in both automations and monday workflows, helping to streamline your processes even further.
A quick note: while formula values can now be used within automations, formulas themselves can’t act as triggers.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and helping us prioritize the features that matter most to you - keep it coming!
Do we have a timeframe for launch? Or a way to sign up to beta test???
