Is it possible to lock the boards and folders in the Navigation menu to prevent users from moving them? Occasionally a board will be moved into a folder and no longer visible, causing users to report the boars is not available.
Hey Brian,
If you set the board permission to the following, board members shouldn’t be able to move the board in the navigation panel:
That said, any board owner will be able to move the board around!
Hi Bianca,
Thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately this does not prevent the board from being moved in the navigation menu. User with permissions as illustrated in your image can still move the board around. They cannot change the structure of the board itself.
Hm, testing this on my end with that permission in place team members are not able to drag/drop the board in the navigation panel…
Are the team members owners of the specific board?
The team members are not owners, I am currently set as the owner. Strange …
An example is below:
All team members shown can move the board on the navigation menu.
Hm - would you be able to send me a screenshot of the board permissions? Thanks Brian!
Good morning, Bianca,
Here are a typical board’s permissions. Below is a screenshot of the board owners.
Thanks for your help on this Brian! Please allow me to check on this with the dedicated product team and specify exactly what the expected behaviour is for this particular permission. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Interested to see what you learn. This is surprisingly not intuitive to establish or not available. Not so say people would maliciously reorder the contents of a workspace, but it happens by mistake more than you think.
Hi Chris and Brian,
Thanks so much for your patience with me!
I’ve actually had confirmation that it isn’t currently possible to lock the navigation menu. My apologies for the misinformation I provided, it appears that something strange is actually occurring on my end
On that note, the team have mentioned that this is something they will take with their wider team to consider developing. I will update you if I hear of any developments!
Thank for the update Bianca.
Hi Bianca, do you know if locking down the ordering in the navigation pane is on the development pipeline for Monday.com? This is also an issue we have with users accidentally moving boards around
Hi @BiancaT , are there any updates on this functionality. With more and more boards in my account, and now with the introduction of workflows, it would be really great to be able to lock the order of my boards as an admin. Is this in the feature pipeline?
I am sharing that if you have an Enterprise account, this functionality to lock the navigation pane now exists. This was completed recently as I had requested this functionality for quite some time.
I shared this in a Community post where I had raised this issue. You can find a bit more here: Either lock folder structure/hierarchy/order - #3 by ScottC
@Lucas1 , @bloshinsky , @RebeccaC @bbrunelle , @Charay
@ScottC wow! thank you for following up and sharing the feature! It is exactly what I needed
Thanks dear @ScottC these information to us we are also seeking for like that information
We are a smaller organization that does not need the Enterprise account, and would greatly benefit from this as well. It is disruptive to keep having users inadvertently move boards and folders within the menu navigations. It feels sloppy and unprofessional to allow users to be able to accidently move things around in our system. I don’t say this with a tone of judgement, just feedback as I am a big fan of Monday, and genuinely want Monday to “look good” to end users
