Private App Issues

So I have created a private App for our company to use to install an Entire set of Board Templates when we start a project. it did take a bit to get it to work right. However, now that the app is installed and can be accessed across the company account, it takes a number of steps to implement it. It won’t show up on the Add from app, so I have to go to the App Marketplace and then click the the “Installed Apps” on the top right. This is where it gets odd. I then have to click the “View App” in which it kicks me back to the Marketplace screen, where I have to Click “Installed Apps” and then the View App. After this the “Use App button” appears and it goes properly from there. I just want to know what gives? If it is an installed app, why is it not showing up from the Add from app dialogue?

Templates from private apps should appear in the template center, no need to use from app. You should just be able to search the template name in the templates (from new board from template) and find it.

The purpose of the App was so we didn’t have to import 9 individual boards. Slow and tedious. Honestly, this question was about the app, not how to import templates.

My answer was about apps! The point of the workspace template feature within your app (which is what you’ve created if you want it to deploy 9 boards) is to put that workspace template into your (or your customers) template center once the app is installed. You (or they) can use them from the template center to deploy all 9 of your boards at once without any of the monkeying around you described.

This is how you are supposed to use them - apps are installed into your monday.com and their features are made available within the UI of monday.com. This includes templates, integrations, board and item views all from their respective native locations within the platform.

NOW, apps have a capability for “onboarding” which when you first use the app will present a certain feature of your app when the “use app” button is clicked. This is a first run experience intended to help a customer get up and running with the app the first time during a trial. It is NOT intended to be the primary or only way you access your apps features.

Go. to. your. template. center! Search the name you gave the workspace template feature in your app, and deploy it. ALL 9 of your boards will be deployed. Your problem is solved. You’re just going about it all wrong - trust me.

I appreciate your clarification.
I dug around and found the Templates as Single feature.
A bit silly this is not documented in the App documents.

I think its arising from a misconception of what the apps are. They are really just bundles that add on features of types that exist in the monday platform already. So new views, templates, automations, integrations, etc.

All of them should be accessed through the ways you’d access built-in monday capabilities of the same type.

Often that “use app” is configured to deploy templates that demo how to use the app for example. Though not always. So yes confusion!
