there is any news on this???
We are also struggling with user permissions. From my POV, there are 2 problems:
- Permission groups
- Permission granularity
Permission groups
Currently, there are only 2 permissions groups “owners” and “subscribers”. Owners can do everything on a board and that cannot be changed. And subscribers can either “edit everything”, “edit content”, “edit rows assigned to them”, “view only”. Well, we had a scenario where we needed a 3rd group. We had a few owners who could add columns and groups etc. We had a few people who we wanted to be able to edit content. And then we had a third group of people who we only wanted to be able to view the board.
Permissions granularity
The 4 existing permission levels are quite restrictive. For example “edit content” still allows people to add new pulses - what if we want them to be able to edit existing pulses, but not add new ones? Another example, “edit everything” allows users to add new columns and groups - what if we want them to be able to add new groups, but not new columns?
Suggested solution
You could allow board owners to create custom “groups” and assign users to those groups. Then, as Etjo suggested, allow owners to update a matrix of “activities” against “groups” so that you can have complete granular control over a number of different user groups.
Josh
I couldn’t agree with Josh more. This is exactly the same problem we have with permissions and I think Josh has hit upon something with breaking the permissions into groups with granular permissions.
We would greatly benefit from his suggested solution.
This is very needed indeed!
we have many boards of regular tasks to a specific department (operations, IT team, Dev, ect) that we want the members of that team to be able to edit everything (but not be board owners), and the rest of the company to have view only to see the status of their requests.
(*requests are open through a form, so there is no need to have editing rights to open a task)
Bringing this back from the depths as the system still operates on an admin OR user basis which is limiting.
An interim solution would be the ability to take the current set of permission options and apply them to ‘Groups’ or ‘Teams’ of users would be an excellent.
In addition, a new ‘user type’ for Board Owner would solve many challenges also.
Permissions are killing us on our rollout.
Column Permissions don’t survive the templating process. That makes column permissions basically worthless for our purposes.
Board Permissions ALSO don’t survive the templating process. This would be really useful as well.
You can’t assign ownership to groups. Again. This makes the administration of large dashboards and company wide summaries VERY hard.
These are the 2 things making it really hard to roll this out beyond a small team. Big-kid apps need granular permission control.
Agree with all of the above. Our organization could vastly benefit from nuanced permission options. While both users might be considered “Members”, organizationally one is an individual contributor and one is a manager. Our way so far of getting around this is leveraging workspace and board ownership. But we just ran into an issue with a manager wanting to export data for their team and we had to bump them up to Admin access to do so. Would love to see a manager level of permissions (ideally per workspace) or a matrix as suggested above. Would love to see this feature in the future! Thanks!
Hi everyone,
Firstly, we recognise it has been a significant amount of time since we have updated this thread, and do apologise. We are actively working on improving our responsiveness to the community at this time, particularly our feature request process so appreciate your patience in advance.
On that note, as we pull together all the votes associated with this topic, we would love if you can redirect the votes on this thread, to the primary thread (most voted) here - if it isn’t too much trouble: User Permissions For Enterprise Only :( - #2 by Marko - as we plan to close this smaller thread in an attempt to consolidate all votes, and better prioritise this feature request based upon the total amount of votes
Thanks for your understanding!
I have done this especially because we need it ASAP, can we have an ETA for this??
@BiancaT
That’s a real shame. As an admin of our account, with a growing team it becomes almost unmanageable very fast. I’m bombarded with questions and issues from confused team members who can’t see specific boards or items. The reason is because new team members join, get hit with all your onboarding materials and start creating their own boards and workspaces without our knowledge. All of this could be prevented if we had a way to control who can add new boards. It’s a free for all now which doesn’t bode well for the long term use of it in our company unfortunately.
A’m agreed with you!
Hi Everyone, Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’ve discussed this request with the product team and while they understand the importance of expanding user permissions for different accounts, as of now it is only available for enterprise accounts. User permissions is part of our wider pricing policy, which is carefully reviewed every couple of months.
Keep voting and sharing your ideas because your feedback makes a difference and helps guide us in prioritizing features that our customers care about most. Learn more about our new features request process here.
Not having this feature in PRO is really making want to choose another company for my Proof on Concept I am offering to a few clients.
I agree, surely the better commercial approach by Monday should be to encourage use of apps from within Monday, however this is driving SME’s to use external software for departments where privacy and employee confidentiality is essential.
