We are leaving Monday

We have moved to Monday 1.5 years ago, after 13 years of experience using other platforms.
Apparently we’ve done a lot of research and really liked lots of functions that Monday provides.
We have found that, however, some key functions important to us are either missing don’t work well enough:

  • The gantt chart function is a bit clunky. For example, to set up dependency, you can not set it up by dragging lines between items in the chart, like many other gantt chart tools do, but have to go back to table view and search for the proper item - making straightforward thing difficult and time consuming.
  • The time tracking tool is hopeless. You cannot export all time record across all boards with details. If you need details (ie start and finish time, etc) you have to go to specific board, and the formate it exported is not further editable. How can this most simple but important function missing?
  • The speed is getting slower and slower.

I wonder if I have something wrong or missing. But if I’m correct I have to regretfully leave and switch to something simpler but much quicker like Trello + a professional gantt chart tool.

Regarding the Gantt chart problems, you should be able to drag the items around to change the dependencies as you please!
You can easily shift dependencies in the Gantt chart by clicking a timeline bar and dragging it the exact number of days it has been delayed, as mentioned in both “The Gantt Chart View and Widget” under “Show dependencies”, and in the “Get started with monday projects” article under “Use the Gantt Chart to stay on top of deadlines”.

Can you take a look at those instructions and confirm if you are still experiencing difficulty with this?

We hear you about the issues exporting the Time Tracking columns. Have you tried using two Date Columns or a Number Column instead if you are looking to export it often?

Regarding the speed, we are so sorry to hear you have been running into this problem! Do you use Google Chrome? Or are you using a different browser or the monday desktop app?

We understand the basics of dependencies as described in both articles. My complaint on the post was that it can only be set in the main table under the dependency column or pop-out window and via a manual selection of the items. It is ok if it is designed in this way. But it would be better if it could be done in a more straightforward way like dragging from the diagram directly to create dependencies.

Can you explain a bit more about how to do time records by setting up date and number columns? currently, we are using a paid app “Tracket” which is still not perfect as it cannot record start and finish time of each record, even though it can export every record across all boards, which is missing from the office time record function of Monday.

Yes we use Chrome ver. 116.0.5845.110
